This wood is from a cache we acquired on a walk in the hills above our neighborhood.  Old beehive boxes were dilapidating on the side of a dirt road. The lids were weathering with such character and were still sturdy.  I like the wood so much I decided to leave plenty of it showing in these pieces.
I was seeking that murky depth you sense more than see when you’re underwater, and the way light hits the surface of the water and somehow gets fractured and diminished the further out and down you go.  That, the silky way creatures move under the sea, graceful and silent, and just for fun, a little mythology.
