Water has always beckoned to me, since childhood. A youth of happy days spent in a backyard pool or swimming in the waters of Southern California’s beaches forged an ease and comfort in and around water. One of my fondest memories is the family’s weekly summer outings to the beach. Sighting dolphins was a special delight – one person would shout and point, and soon everyone was looking and enjoying their playful plunges in and out of the waves.

In “Dance Across the Sea,” day and night merge into a celebration of life in this ocean fantasy, which comes to life on a sturdy retired surfboard. The surfboard shape seems to call out for both sea and celestial imagery. The joy of surfing transmogrifies into the beauty of nature under water. Surfing is a dance upon the waves; dolphins and orcas are the principals of the ballet.
