If you are lucky enough to receive a homegrown onion from a friend (or if you’re talented enough to grow your own), you may be presented with the entire beautiful plant – stem, leaves and all. Then you can see how complete it is, what a work of art it is – especially the red (purple, really) onion, because it’s always about color. Or food. Or, when the stars align and all is one, both.
