We found this wood on a walk in the hills above our neighborhood.  Old beehive boxes were dilapidating on the side of a dirt road. The lids were weathered nicely and in pretty good shape.  I like the wood so much I decided to leave plenty of it showing in these pieces.
Did you know that male Seahorses fertilize and carry their partner’s eggs in their pouch? Pretty cool, eh? Their spiraling tale and multitude of colors, my love of both horse and sea were all the impetus I needed to paint this little fellow.
